A spicy lip-smacking indian snack-recipe by my nani

Ingredients vegetarian 6 servings


    • 1.5  cups chana dal (yellow gram pulse)
    • 3 cups wheat flour
    • 1 tbsp crushed garlic
    • 1 tsp dhania powder
    • 1 tsp red chilli powder
    • 1 pinch heeng (asofoetida)
    • 1 tsp amchoor powder
    • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
    • few sprigs chopped green corriander
    • 1 cup chopped onion
    • Salt to taste
    • 4 tbsp Oil

    Directions

    1. Soak chana dal in warm water for 5-6 hours.
    2. For the stuffing, Drain excess water and add garlic,all spices mentioned and salt.Grind it to a smooth paste, adding less water.
    3. Knead the wheat flour with 2 pinches of salt to a hard dough.
    4. Make 15 equal portion of the dough.Roll each into a 5 inches diameter poori.
    5. Fill 2 tsp of stuffing in each piece of rolled dough, and close them end to end into a semi circular shape.
    6. Boil these into hot water mixed with a pinch of salt and 1 tsp oil, for 20 minutes.Drain water, and Let them cool.Cut them into 3-4 pieces.
    7. Take oil in a kadhai, add chopped onion and fry them till they turn golden pink.Then add those pieces and shallow fry them till crisp and golden brown.
    8. Sprinkle finely chopped corriander leaves and serve hot with green chutney.
