Fried okra in rich gravy

okra in a really different masala

a gravy made from a blend of different spices available in your kitchen.just try it and you will like it...my hubby calls this my signature dish!!

Ingredients vegetarian 1 servings


    • 250 gms okra
    • handful of shallots
    • 2 tsp channa dal
    • 2 tsps roasted peanuts
    • 4-5 cashew nuts
    • 3 tsps grated coconut
    • 3-4 cloves
    • 1/2 inch ginger
    • 5-6 pods garlic
    • 2 tsps dhaniya
    • 1tsp methi seeds
    • 6-7 whole red chillies
    • 2tbls tamarind pulp
    • 1 tsp turmeric
    • salt to taste
    • mustard and curry leaves for seasoning

     

    Directions

    1. cut okra into 1 inch and shallow fry them in oil and set aside
    2. fry the channa dal,peanuts,cashew,ginger garlic,methi,red chilli,cloves,coconut and dhaniya in oil and grind them to a smooth paste adding water.
    3. heat oil and season with mustard and curry leaves.add the ground paste and add turmeric and salt.if the spice is not enough u may add some chiili powder to it.
    4. allow to cook with a little water and preventing it from sticking to the bottom. cook till oil sepeartes.
    5. add the tamarind pulp and boil for few more minutes and now add the fried okra and again cook for 2 mins.
    6. serve hot with rice or pulav

    dear Pankhuri,shallots are small onions and are to be used after seasoning the oil.....the ground masala is what gives a different taste

    hey u havnt mentioned shallots in the procedure.. neeways i tried the dish without them and it turned out fine.. not too great.. not too bad.. fine to be made for a change.

    Dear Sadiya, okra is also called as ladies finger.. It is called bhindi in hindi.. Hope this helps..
