Urad dal vada

crispy vadas which can be kept for a month .

these vadas are made in temples and offered to god hanumanor anjaneya.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • 2 cups urad dal
  • 1 tbsp pepper corns
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • oil to fry
  • a few curry leaves


  1. Wash dal nicely and drain water completely and leave for 15 minutes
  2. Grind dal with pepper,curryleaves and salt to a coarse paste without adding water.
  3. Add butter (softened)and mix.
  4. Heat oil in a heavy vessel .
  5. Take a lemon sized dough and spred into very thin discs on a thick plastic sheet or banana leaf .
  6. Fry 3to4vadas at a time in hot oil on medium heat till vadas are golden brown.
  7. Remove,drain on a paper towel ,cool and store in airtight containers.
  8. Keeps upto one month.
  9. Enjoy cooking!!!
