Spicy Dosa

Traditional Tamil dish made with daal and rice. Served mostly for dinner. Taste best with Aviyal.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • 2 cups Rice (parboiled)
  • 1 tbsp Rice, regular
  • 1 cup Red Gram (split)
  • 2 tbsps. Black gram (split)
  • 1 tsp Green Gram (split)
  • 5 nos. Red Chilies
  • 4 nos. Green Chilies
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsps. Coconut, grated
  • 2 nos. Onion
  • 10 leaves Curry Leaf
  • ½ cup Vegetable Oil
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Soak daals and rices for 4 hours in water. Drain water.
  2. Cut onions and green chillies into small pieces,Grind daals, rices, ginger, red chillies and sombu with 3 cups of water.
    Note: The batter should not be fine. It should have a very granulated texture.
  3. Add cut onions, green chillies, grated coconut, curry leaves and salt to the flour.
  4. Heat dosa tava and pour 4 tbsp of batter on tava.
  5. Spread evenly to make into a adai dosa.
  6. Add 1 tsp of oil on the adai.
  7. Cook evenly on either side till it turns golden brown.
  8. Serve hot.

This is a nice recipe. Turned out to be really nice. But I did not understand the meaning of parboiled rice and so I partially boiled the rice. You have mentioned in the recipe sombu but I am a Gujarati so it took time for me to figure out that you meant fennel seeds.

Hi, This is a traditional dish but we dont add jeera,curry leaves and green chillies, and ginger. However, we add only red chillis and hing.
