Mixed Daal

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 3 tbsp Moong daal,
    • 3 tbsp Urad daal
    • 3 tbsp Tuvar daal
    • 3 tbsp Chana daal
    • ½ tsp Jeera
    • a pinch of asfoetida
    • ½ cup diced onions
    • 2 diced tomatoes
    • 1 inch ginger (chpped)
    • 2 green chillies (chopped)
    • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder (haldi)
    • ¼ tsp red chilli powder,
    • ¼ tsp garam masala
    • oil to fry
    • salt to taste

    Directions

    1. Wash all the four daals and soak for a few hours.
    2. Heat 3½ cups water in a pressure cooker.
    3. Add salt and haldi powder and all the 4 daals and boil it.
    4. Meanwhile, heat oil and add asfoetida and jeera.
    5. When the jeera changes colour, fry the onions, green chillies and ginger in this till the onions are golden brown.
    6. Add the tomatoes to this and fry it till they get mushy.
    7. Add the red chilli powder and garam masala.
    8. Add the above mixture to the daal, and cook on low heat till the daal mixture gets a little thick.
    9. Serve hot with rice or roti.

    ur recipe is very nice,but its a kind request to all the members of khanakhazana, to mention the names of ingredients in hindi,so that any layman can understand.some of the names of spices are mentioned in english,and i think many of our female friends don't know its meaning.so please don't mind and i hope that you all will keep up my sincere request.

    Daal will definately be fantastic but I think we should boil the daals before we add the onions and all the species.

    i usually make this dish but after reading urs i will suggest u to add 2-3 cloves of garlic it will taste much better.
