Healthy Ragi Idli

Idli made with Idli batter and ragi flour with mixed Veg.

This Idli can be tried at home the same night that u prepare the Idli batter freshly.Healthy as well as tasty recipe and good for Diabetic patients esp. .Try this at home & taste this hot with red tomato-Onion Chutney or chutney of ur choice.

Ingredients vegetarian 6 servings

    • 100gm ragi flour
    • 500 gm Idli batter(salted)-fresh and not fermented
    • 4 tbsp plain curd
    • 1 1/4 tsp or needed salt
    • 3 tbsp grated carrot
    • 3 tbsp cabbage-grated
    • 1 tea cup oats-soaked in water for 30 secs and squeezed
    • 1 tea cup rice flakes(Aval or poha)-soaked for 1 min and squeezed
    • 1 handful finely chopped methi leaves
    • 1 tsp lemon juice
    • 400ml water
    • 2 tbsp refined oil


    1. Take a blender,add ragi flour,400ml water,soaked oats,soaked rice flakes,plain curd and salt.Pulse this 3-4 times and add this to the fresh Idli batter with grated carrot,methi leaves,lemon juice and grated cabbage.Mix this well and keep this aside.
    2. Brush oil on Idli plates,pour the batter on each hole and steam-cook covered for 7-10 mins or till done.
    3. Serve this hot with red tomato-Onion Chutney or chutney of ur choice.



    Hi ! Christy .... Excellent Recipe . Thank you . Ragi is known as poor man's millet . It's rich in Protein with essential Amino acid . Loaded with high amounts of Fiber , B- Complex Vitamins, Calcium , Iron and other minerals. Lowers Blood cholesterol , Prevents the blocking of blood vessels and thus reduces the risk of Hypertension and stroke . Aids in weight loss and Bone development . Keeps the blood sugar level constant . A gud laxative for people suffering from Constipation .Prevents Malnutrition , Premature aging and Anemia .


    Christy nice recipe, but I saw this once on National Geographic that Ragi is very hard to eat as it is very dry and people dont bite it, just gulp it is this true?
