Coconut payasam

payasam made of coconut and rice

easy to prepare and tasty too .liked by everyone.serves four. forgotten south indian payasam.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 cup  grated coconut
    • 1/4 cup raw rice
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 tsp badam,cashew,poppy seeds each
    • 2 elaichi
    • ½ tsp ghee
    • 1/2 liter milk
    • 1 tbl sp dry grapes and cashew nuts


    1. soak rice in water for minimum 1/2 an hour
    2. soak badam,cashew and poppy seeds in warm water for ten minutes
    3. add coconut,rice in a mixer and blend till smooth
    4. add in a thick bottomed pan and boil ,stirring continuosly so that no lumps are formed adding milk in between
    5. grind badam(remove skin),cashew,poopy seeds ,elaichi and add that to pan.
    6. when the white color changes to transparent, add sugar
    7. let boil for another 15 minutes,remove from fire and keep it closed for 5 more minutes
    8. fry cashewand dry grapes separately in ghee  and add to payasam




    hi shakunthala, dis recipe of urs is really delicious. to make it more nutritious instead of sugar i used jaggery and every1 liked it. thnks..:-)
