Rava Idli

An easy to make healthy snack.

This is a very easy to make idli made from rava and does not need any overnight fermenting.

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

  • 1 cup Cream of Wheat
  • 2 tbsps. Coconut, grated
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds (black)
  • ½ tsp Bengal Gram (split)
  • 1 bunch Curry Leaf
  • ¾ cup Buttermilk
  • 2 tsps. Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • Salt to taste
  • Cashews for garnishing

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a heavy bottommed vessel and add mustard seeds, chana dal and the curry leaves.
  2. When it starts spluterring, add the rava and keep stirring it untill it gets toasted (you should start getting a nice aroma)
  3. Let the rava cool down.
  4. Add grated coconut, salt and baking soda to it. Mix well.
  5. Add buttermilk and mix it well.
  6. Grease the idli mould and keep one cashew half and then pour the idli mixture.
  7. Steam the idlis for 10 minutes.
  8. serve these hot with chutney.

Dear lovely, you can pour the idli batter in a shallow pan ( preferably aluminium that can fit inside a cooker) then steam the batter in the cooker without whistle, as u do for dhokla. cut the pieces and enjoy !!

simple!! just buyone!!heee hee!!!you can steam it in a vessel kept in a pressure cooker and then cut it into pieces...

Hi If u do not have idli mould instead you can use small steel bowls. Pour the batter in equal quantity in the bowls and then steam them in cooker (without whistle) or a steamer.

hi lovely, u can try steaming idlis in a greased steel plate and cut them to ur liking in the same way as dhoklasor khamans.

i have not idli mould so please tell me other option bcoz my children love idli
