Green Banana Kofta curry

Raw banana Koftas served in a curd based gravy.

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    For the Koftas

    • 2 green bananas peeled and cut into half.
    • 2 green chilies chopped fine
    • 1 medium onion ground to a fine paste
    • 3 garlic cloves finely chopped
    • 1 egg whisked.
    • 1 tbsp besan powder
    • 7-8 raisins soaked in a little warm water.
    • Salt and sugar to taste
    • Oil for deep frying.

    For the gravy

    • 1 big potato cubed into medium pieces-parboil to reduce cooking time.
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 1 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 small onion chopped fine (optional)
    • 1 tsp cumin seeds
    • 2 tbsp hung curd
    • 1 tsp garam masala powder.
    • 1 bunch of finely chopped coriander leaves
    • Salt and sugar to taste
    • 2 tbsp mustard oil.

    Directions

    1. Boil the green bananas in salted water.
    2. Then mash them and add all the other ingredients mentioned for the Koftas from green chillies to salt and sugar.
    3. Mix well.
    4. Make small balls out of this mixture and deep fry in hot oil.
    5. Take out the koftas and drain on a couple of kitchen towels to absorb the excess oil.
    6. Next for the gravy, heat 2 tbsps of mustard oil and add the bay leaf and the jeera seeds to crackle.
    7. Next add the chopped onion and fry till soft. (You can make the curry without onions as well.)
    8. Next add the turmeric powder, hung card, salt and sugar to taste and fry nicely till the oil starts to separate.
    9. Next add the potatoes and stir fry for a couple of mins.
    10. Then add the fried koftas and coat well with the masala.
    11. Add a cup of warm water and bring to boil.
    12. Lastly add the chopped coriander leaves and garam masala.
    13. Serve hot with roti/parathas/rice.

    nice recipe. for egg substitute you can use other binding agent like a cornflower etc.

    I remember as a child we had banana trees in our garden and my mum would make us so many things out of raw bananas and tis was 1 of those dishes. Thanks 4 sharing.
