hi try making besan barfi with one cup besan, half cup ghee, one cup sugar.fry the besan on low heat with ghee and make the chasni by sprinkling very little water on the sugar before boiling. this will save fuel and make a thick chasni which can then be added to the besan and it will cook fast. cook till the mixture leaves ghee it is ready to be poured in a thali .it will dry very fast and u can have nice besan barfi.very simple and easy. i have made this many times.

The shortening is to be melted and measured or to be measured in its own form?

YOUR RECEIPE FOR BESAN BARFI IS NOT CLEAR AT ALL SPECIALLY THE MEANING OF SHORTENING AND OTHER THINGS, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE BEGINEERS TO BY THEMSELVES, I DON'T THINK THERE WILL BE ANY USE, BY DOING OUSELVES, ONLY THING IT WILL SPOIL ALL THE INGREDIEITS AND MAKE A MESS OUT OF IT

The meaning of shortening is not clear. If this is ghee thfien this is the method of "Besan Ke Ladoo" and in "Besan ki Barfi" recipe ghee and mava is must. And the method of making Barfi is also totally different.

iagree with the comments submitted before the word shortening is not clear there should be some answers to the queries.

Shortening is hydrogenated vegetable oil. Dalda is one brand of shortening that most of us are familiar with. Outside India, however, you have to refer to this as shortening.
