Tomato Korma

Korma made with tomatoes

This one is a special dish of Kongunadu cuisine from Tamil Nadu.A superb Combination for Idli,Dosa, Chapathi and Parota.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 250 gm Tomatoes -chopped finely
    • 75 gm sambar onions-chopped finely
    • 1 tsp fresh ginger-garlic paste
    • 2 green chillies(slit lengthwise)
    • 2 tsp chilli powder
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    • ground masala of spices(1-cinnamon stick,1-green cardamom,1-clove,2 tsp saunf,2 tsp kuskus,5 cashewnuts,1/2 cup grated coconut with 1/2 cup water)
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • few curry leaves
    • few coriander and mint leaves
    • 1/2 lemon
    • 2 cups water
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp refined oil

    Directions

    1. Heat oil in a kadai,saute mustard seeds with chopped onions,curry leaves,coriander and mint leaves and green chillies for 3 min.
    2. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a min.
    3. Add the ground spices,chilli powder,turmeric powder,salt and mix well for a min.
    4. Add chopped tomatoes and water , let it cook for 12-15 mins stirring constantly.
    5. When done,squeeze 1/2 lemon over it.
    6. Garnish with little coriander leaves.
    7. Serve this Tomato korma hot with rice, idli, dosa, chapathi or parota.

    Try this Korma with 1 tsp green-chillies paste instead of adding 2 tsp chilli powder.But tastes good if tried with chilli powder only.
