Moong dal Kosambari

Soaked Moong dal Salad

This is prepared in South Indian house & temples on festivals. They also make this kosambari in Wedding dawat.

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    • 1 cup Yellow Moong dal (Soaked for 1/2 hour)
    • 1/2 cup scraped fresh Coconut (can use frozen also, thaw well before use)
    • 2 finely chopped Green chillies
    • 1/2 cup chopped Cucumber
    • 1/2 cup grated Carrot
    • 1/4 cup chopped Cilantro (coriander leaves)
    • 2 tsp Vegetable Oil
    • 2 tsp Mustard seeds
    • a pinch of Hing
    • Salt to taste
    • 2 tsp Lemon juice (optional)

    Directions

    1. Drain all the water from the Dal & put it in a mixing bowl.
    2. To this add Coconut, Cilantro, Cucumber & Carrot. Mix well.
    3. Heat Oil in a kadai. Add Mustard seeds & Hing. Once the seeds splutter, add Green chillies. Fry for 15 secs.
    4. Pour it over the Dal mixture. Add Salt & lemon juice. Mix well & serve.

    Note: With the same procedure, Chana dal kosambari is also made. Replace Moong dal with Channa dal.
