Kattu-soru Kuzhambu

Rice and Kuzhambu packed together

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 2 cups Raw rice (Ponni variety)
    • 2 cups first Coconut milk
    • 1 cup second coconut milk
    • 1 tbsp refined oil 
    • 1 cup Tamarind pulp - size of a big lemon 
    • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp Urad dhal
    • 1 tsp Turmeric powder 
    • few Curry leaves 
    • 5 no. whole red chillies  
    • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida 
    • 1/2 cup Roasted groundnuts (optional)
    • 1 tsp Sugar 
    • 2 tsp Salt to taste

    Directions

    1. To make this kuzhambu,heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dhal.
    2. Add curry leaves,red chillies, turmeric powder, asafoetida and saute.
    3. Add second coconut milk and tamarind, salt and sugar.
    4. Bring to a boil, add the first coconut milk and raw ponni rice- 2cups and cook till done.Turn off the flame.
    5. Add roasted groundnuts.Mix well.
    6. Serve hot with naattu kozhi varutha curry .
