A very famous festive preparation

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 3/4 cup moong dal
    • 1 cup rice
    • 2 cups milk
    • 1 cup jaggery
    • 1 tsp elaichi powder
    • 2 small sized bananas
    • 3 cups water
    • 1 tbsp chana dal
    • 10-15 cashews and raisins for garnishing
    • 2 tbsp ghee

    Directions

    1. Dry roast moong dal till golden brown in colour.
    2. Wash rice, chana dal and moong dal. Drain.
    3. Add water, milk and mashed bananas and cook for 3 to 4 whistles
    4. Heat a flat bottomed pan, add jaggery and very little water.
    5. After jaggery melts, put it through a sieve to eliminate stones.
    6. Mix jaggery paste with pongal mix and mix on slow heat .
    7. remove from fire.
    8. In a kadhai, add ghee and fry cashews and raisins till cashews are golden brown.
    9. add to pongal and serve hot.

    Hi ! Usha , I hv a doubt . Do we add bananas to sweet pongal . I've never heard of tat . Is it to enhance d taste . Anyway thank U . I'll try it out today .

    we dont put coconut or copra in sakkara pongal raje

    to the traditional pongal chana dal is not added.it is prepared only with rice and moong dal. dry grated copra is added for taste and garnished with loads of ghee and cashwes and raisens. before srving forget not to add cardamom.
