jeera pepper rasam

makes a great soup on cold winter days

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    • 2 tsp tuvar dal
    • 1 tsp pepper (can add more if you prefer it spicy)
    • 2 tsp jeera
    • 1 red chilli
    • 1/2 tsp haldi
    • 1 tsp ghee 
    • 4 to 5 pods garlic (optional)
    • 1 tomato
    • 1 tsp imli (tamarind paste)
    • salt to taste
    • 3-4 cups water

    ingredients for tempering:

    • 1 tsp ghee
    • 1 tsp rai or mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp jeera
    • a few curry leaves
    • coriander leaves to garnish

    Directions

    1. Fry tuvar dal,chilli,pepper,jeera,garlic peeled in 1tsp of ghee.
    2. Make a paste adding the tomato and water.
    3. Boil 2cups of water and add 1 tsp of haldi, salt, imli paste and the ground paste.
    4. Mix well and boil it for 10mnts till raw smell goes.
    5. Add some more water.
    6. Add finely chopped coriander leaves .
    7. Heat 1 tsp ghee, add rai seeds, jeera and curry leaves. When rai splutters, add them to rasam.
    8. serve hot.
