Aloo ka Bharta

Mashed potatoes indian style

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    • 4 large Ppotatoes
    • 1 tomato
    • 1 onion
    • 1 green chilly
    • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
    • 1/2 tsp Chat masala
    • 1/4 tsp red chilly powder
    • 1/4 tsp garam masala
    • salt
    • 1 tsp desi ghee
    • 1/2 tsp jeera powder
    • 1 pinch of hing (Asafoetida)

     

    Directions

    1. Boil and peel potatos.
    2. Chop onion, tomato and green chilly.
    3. Mash potatos and add all ingredients except cumin seeds, hing and deshi ghee. Mix them well.
    4. Heat ghee in a serving spoon put jeera and heeng to crackle. Add this to bharta and mix well.
    5. It is ready to serve.
    6. If you are making it for children then avoid chillies and add 1 tsp melted butter to make it more healthy. Little grated cheese can also be added.
     You can also use this bharta as filling to make grilled potato sandwiches.

    If you leave out the desi ghee, the aloo bharta tastes great and authentic.

    We are using deshi ghee here, further adding mustard oil will spoil the taste fully. Use mustrad oil or deshi ghee only and no mix up please. Tadka is optional.
