Mustard Mutton

A mutton dish prepared with mustard

Picked up this recipe long time back and has always been a favorite with the family.

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings


    For main preperation
    • ½ kilo Mutton
    • 150 gram Ghee or Oil
    • 3 to 4 Dry Red Chillies (de-seeded)
    • 2 medium Onion finely chopped
    • 7 to 8 small Onions peeled only.
    • 3 Green chillies slited
    • Salt to taste

    To be made paste

    • 1 cup Vinegar
    • 15 cloves of Garlic
    • 1 table spoon Cumin seeds (Zeera)
    • 75 grams Mustard seeds (Sarson)
    • 1 table spoon Coriander seeds (Dhaniya)
    • 1 inch Ginger (Adrak)
    • ½ tea spoonful Turmeric powder (Haldi)

    Directions

    1. Take all the ingredients under paste category above and paste them finely in Vinegar (instead of water).
    2. Marinate the mutton with vinegar and keep aside for 5 to 6 hours.
    3. One hour before cooking, re-marinate the mutton with pasted ingredients and salt to taste.
    4. Put oil or ghee in a non-stick pan and fry the chopped onions till brown.
    5. Add the dry red chillies.
    6. Add the marinated mutton. Add little water, cover and simmer.
    7. When the mutton is soft, add the small onions, cover and simmer till the mutton is cooked.
    8. Garnish with green chillies and serve with chapatis/ rice.
