Dal Makhani

Punjabi Dal dish

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    1 cup Urad dal(saboot) 20 Red kidney beans(rajma) 1 tsp. red chilli powder 1 tbsp. refined oil 1/2 tbsp. finely chopped ginger 6 flakes of garlic 1 finely chopped onion 1/2 tsp. garam masala 1 tsp. dhania powder 4 tbsp fresh cream 1 tbsp. desi ghee 1 tsp. cumin seeds pinch of asfetoida powder salt to taste

    Directions

    1. Soak dal and rajma overnight.
    2. Put oil, ginger, salt in dal and boil the dal for 30 minutes.
    3. Put desi ghee in a pan heat it and add cumin seeds till they start sputtering, then add asfetoida powder, garlic and fry till brown.
    4. Now add onions and fry them until brown.
    5. Add garam masala, red chilli powder in the pan and switch off heat. Add to the cooked dal .
    6. Finally add cream to the dal and mix it in dal slowly.
    7. Garnish it with coriander in the end and serve hot.

    no sign when to add rajma and how?

    The dal came out very good. added some more things to the recipe. like I added 1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 green chillies, 1 tomato then added it to the pressure cooked dal. thanks sarika. made it for the first time and you were of great help to guide me. Waiting for my husband to come home and tell me how is it. have a good day.

    when it is dal makhani can we add even other dal varities in it to make it more colourful and yummy

    I cook this recipe but I add 2 tomatoes puree to this dal,If you try this way surely this dal will be more tasty. Bansi Bathija
