Lauki-Chane ki Daal

Very tasty and healthy daal.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 cup chana dal
    • 2 cup Lauki(Bottle gourd) chopped
    • 1 large onoin finely chopped
    • 1 tomatos chopped
    • 4 clove garlic, finely chopped
    • 1 tsp Ginger, finely chopped
    • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
    • 1/2 tsp red chilly powder
    • salt and water
    • 2 tbsp deshi ghee/clarified butter
    • 2 tbsp chopped coriender/cilantro leaves
    • 2 whole dried red chilly
    • 1/2 tsp cumin/jeers seeds
    • pinch of asafetida/hing
    • 2 green chilly chopped
    • may add 1/2 tsp amchoor if you like it to be tangy.(Optional)

     

     

    Directions

    1. Wash dal well, transfer into the pressure cooker with lauki, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt and 3 cups of water, cover and cook for 3-4 whistles.
    2. Open cooker lid when steam dies off.
    3. Heat deshi ghee in a pan over medium-high heat, add cumin seeds and whole red chilies and let it splutter, now add onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies and asafetida and cook until lightly browned. Add chopped tomatos and cook till they are soft.
    4. Pour this tadka over dal.
    5. Add remaining ghee and chopped coriander, stir and serve.
    6. Eat this with rice or chapati.
