As you guessed, it could be 'opium' poppy seeds [ khas khas, in the language of subcontinent ], dear Salma.

Hello Chris and Salma, this is in response to your queries pertained to Eno. Eno is the brand name for 'fruit salt' that is packed in small glass bottles and available in any East Indian grocery stores . This, usually, is meant to bring relief from indigestion and constipation in humanbeings after it's ingestion, but can also be used to promote and accelerate the fermenting process in dosa and idli batters, etc... Cheers!

Hi Drishti, The correct proportion of yogurt (curd) is 2 cups for 1 cup suji. I make it all the time.

Hello Soni I make from Besan too I will try and post the reciepe. I just happened to read the reciepe here again today and noticed it says 2 cups of curd ... whereas the correct proportion is 1 cup of curd (for 1 cup of Suji) .. Looks like a mis print ..

Hi, instead of steaming the dhokla mixture you can pour the mixture in a greased microwave proof container and keep it in a microwave for 15 minutes at high mode. Less dishes to wash!!!

Hi This is Rita. Can the baking soda or baking powder be used instead of ENO and how much?

10/11/2008 2:43 AM by lalitha

it's POPPY seeds not POPEYE seeds. The nearest equivalent of Enos fruit salts may well be Alka Seltzer.

hi its tithi actually i am not able to understand that what is popeye seeds. And is it ok to use baking soda instead of eno.

6/23/2008 9:12 AM by Rani

Hi Drishti..the recipe sounds gud..will try it..however i guess this is the suji verison of the normal rice dhoklas..and sesame seeds are known as poppey seeds..not popeye...

Popeye seeds Sesame seeds (white). ENO powder is an antaacid. Here is something that is much more descriptive. In a nutshell, ENO is a "fruit salt". For those of you who do not know what a fruit salt is, it is a mix of Sodium Bicarbonate (46.4%), Citric Acid (43.6%), Sodium Carbonate (10%). GlaxoSmithKline makes this product. It is not as sensitive to food formations as straight Sodium Bicarbonate plus it does not have that "aftertaste" that Sodium Bicarbonate has. It is difficult to find in the US outside of Indian grocery stores. Here are some links: www.gsk.com/products/consumerh ealthcare.jsp www.msds-gsk.com/uk_cons/00249 20a.pdf
